Have you ever experienced if you take a different route to your work than the usual one, you feel to notice a lot more of your surrounding? If you get up in the morning and feel like trying a different coffee than the usual? If you go to the gym and feel like not working out but a lot more excited to go out biking? Just notice the pattern here. Your mind and body always try to look for a change every now and then. Even though we resist change most of the time, the natural law of life is – Change. Change is inevitable. And more often than not, change is good. Change brings in the balance, it brings a new perspective and it sometimes shakes up our beliefs and makes us stronger.
Do not resist the change
Life is a series of natural and spontaneous changes. Don’t resist them; that only creates sorrow. Let reality be a reality. Let things flow naturally forward in whatever way they like – Lao Tzu
It is quite natural when we bring in any change to a routine process, there will be some resistance – from both the mind and the body. We have to understand that it is futile to resist it. Many times the necessary changes are not even under our direct influence. We need to train ourselves to embrace the change. The best thing we can do instead of resisting is to equip ourselves for the changing times ahead. As I mentioned earlier, change is inevitable. The harder we try to resist it, the harder it becomes to adapt. Have an optimistic mindset so that it helps you to ride out the tough times and keep yourself in good mental shape to accept the change.
Be an optimist
Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has –Â Margaret Mead
You might have experienced a bad breakup recently or you might have lost your job recently. These things are bitter pills to swallow and it is very easy to give up on happiness. Hang on! Let the time heal these things. You have to be optimistic about life. There is no other option. A lot of people have a very negative outset in life. They believe in spite of anything they won’t be happy. They feel maybe they don’t deserve to be. What a sad way to lead a life? Bring an optimistic approach to life. See the lighter things of situations. If you are not meant to be with that person, then that breakup was inevitable and maybe there is something more good thing waiting since you have no job. This would be the best time for you to work on yourself. Use this opportunity to be the best version of yourself you could be.
Be in the Present
Incredible change happens in your life when you decide to take control of what you do have power over instead of craving control over what you don’t –Â Steve Maraboli
It is so easy to lose your precious time by procrastinating. It is one of the unhealthiest practices for your mind. Procrastination brings unnecessary anxiety and fear in your life. Let me give you a personal experience. I was part of a very good team in my organization. We used to have a lot of fun and a very relaxed working environment. It was all good for 2.5 years. But all of a sudden we were told that the product we were working on will be scaled down and we will be put under a different line of business. It made us all very jittery. I procrastinated a lot on how would the things turn out in the new team and since I had married a year back, I personally felt more on the edge. But now we have been with the new product for more than a year now and it has been very refreshing indeed. What I want to tell by all this is things will turn out fine in the end and it isn’t much you could do except prepare yourself for the change. As long as you are in the present and conscious of the things happening around you, you will not feel anxiety about the future.
Change is inevitable and we all should be prepared for it. In fact, we have to constantly strive to understand that different phases of life bring changes to us. The more we embrace the change, the easier it is to adapt.
